Blues For Dummies
Deciding What Your Blues Band Will Play
Adapted From: Blues For Dummies

The first step to putting a blues band together is determining the style of blues you want to play. Pick a style, examine its components, and start piecing together a set list (simply, a list of songs that your band will play). For example, if B.B. King is your hero, begin building your band's repertoire around his best-known tunes. Then start investigating the more obscure numbers he recorded and pluck tunes from that assortment. As you're doing your research, you'll discover other blues artists with similar playing styles, which means you can unearth yet more cool tunes to add to the set list.

Be aware that nearly all recorded music is protected by a copyright. If the time comes that you want to record, make an appointment with a business lawyer who can give you the basics on copyright law, permissions, and compositions that are in the public domain.
