Creating the Movie Starlet Glow
Adapted From: Photoshop6 For Dummies

When you're working with Photoshop 6, here's how to create that soft face-flaw-forgiving glow that the movie stars of yesteryear were so fond of.

  1. Select Layer, New, Layer via Copy or press Ctrl+J.

This move creates a layer that looks just like the background.

  1. Choose Filter, Blur, Gaussian Blur.

Select a pretty high radius. Try 5.0 pixels.

  1. Lower the Opacity in the Layers Palette to 70%.

This enables the original image to show through a bit to lessen the blurry effect.

  1. In the Layers palette, change the blend mode to lighten.

Running through these simple steps applies the blurry effect only to areas in the layer that are lighter than the underlying original image.
