Today's tip is a creative idea for new parents (or as a gift you can give to other new parents). Combine your parental pride with your digital photography prowess to create pictorial birth announcements. The announcement can be a piece you print yourself or, in the computer age, send as an e-mail. Here are the steps:
Take a photo of the baby.
Use available light if you're afraid the flash may hurt the infant's eyes. Newborns don't smile much, but they look very cute while asleep with their little hands clenched. For bonus point, have the baby wearing clothing given by the grandparents.
Crop the photo in your image editor to concentrate on the baby's face.
If necessary, adjust the color to remove excess red or other tones.
Use a greeting card program or desktop publishing application like PrintShop to create a good-looking card.
These programs let you assemble your own pictures into cards based on templates supplied with the software, or designs you build yourself from scratch.
Print the announcement on a photo-quality inkjet printer to do justice to the handsome infant.
