Trying to find out something really specific about Ann Arbor, Michigan, or Tulsa, Oklahoma, or any other specific city/area? Here are some ideas for locating region-specific info online:

  • Online directories, Yahoo! for example, have sections devoted to local information.
  • Many newspapers have their own Web sites with information about their service areas.
  • Most states and many cities in the U.S. have extensive Web sites. You can guess the URL for almost any city or state by using the following template. Fill in the name of the city name where indicated, and then supply the appropriate two-letter postal code in place of the XX below:

For larger US cities: http://www.ci.cityname.XX.us

For example, the URL for Boston would be http://www.ci.boston.ma.us

For states: http://www.state.XX.us

For example, the URL for Montana would be http://www.state.mt.us
