When it comes to higher-level math courses, such as calculus, a graphing calculator may not just be nice to have it may be required. Since May 1995, use of a graphing calculator has been required for some questions on the Calculus Advanced Placement exam.
Here are the four basic functions that a calculator should be able to perform:
- Graphing a function within an arbitrary viewing window
- Finding the zeros of a function
- Computing the derivative of a function numerically, that is, finding the value of a derivative at a specific point
- Computing definite integrals (with constant endpoints) numerically
