Auntie Jessica's Party Chicken Wings

Preparation time: 10 minutes

Cooking time: 30 minutes

Yield: 4 to 6 servings

2 pounds chicken wings, rinsed and patted dry

1/3 cup cornstarch

2 tablespoons powdered chicken soup base

1 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder

1 teaspoon salt

Cooking oil for deep-frying

  1. Cut the chicken wings into sections, discarding the tips.

  2. Combine the cornstarch, chicken soup base, five-spice powder, and salt in a large bowl. Add the chicken wings and mix well. Let stand for 10 minutes.

  3. In a wok, heat the cooking oil to 375 degrees. Deep-fry the chicken wings, a few at a time, turning occasionally, until golden brown, 7 to 8 minutes per batch.
