Some online auction sellers use beeswax to secure items in an irregular position for photography. For instance, when you want to hold a piece of jewelry or a gem at a specific angle, beeswax may be great. But it often can be difficult to remove from the object you're photographing. Using museum putty (not the gel, the putty!) works much better; it holds even tighter, and is so very easy to remove from the item once you've finished taking its picture. You can buy a package of museum putty for a few bucks on eBay, and it will last you virtually forever.
