Retired Racing Greyhounds For Dummies
Adopting a Retired Racing Greyhound
Adapted From: Retired Racing Greyhounds For Dummies

A retired Greyhound racer isn't perfect for every family, but he can fit perfectly into almost any lifestyle, as long as you take the time to pick the right animal and teach him what he needs to know to be a valued family member. Retired racers are adaptable and do well in loving homes with families who understand their needs. They deserve no less.

Greyhounds do best in a relaxed environment, so homes with lots of rambunctious children or harsh, loud adults aren't ideal. They are sensitive dogs, so heavy-handed owners and training methods are totally inappropriate for Greyhounds.

Greyhounds adjust to many climates, but their light coats, fragile skin, lack of body fat, and sensitivity to extremes of heat and cold make them totally unsuited to living outdoors.
