The content of the passages in the ACT Science Reasoning Test comes from courses commonly taught in grades 7 through 12 (and possibly first-year college). The emphasis of this test is science reasoning skills, not recall of scientific content or general science knowledge. The passages comes from the following categories:

  • Biology
  • Earth/space sciences
  • Chemistry
  • Physics

The use of calculators is not permitted on the Science Reasoning Test, although some basic arithmetic computations may be necessary for some of the questions.
