Making Use of Notecards in Second Life

Adapted From: Second Life For Dummies

Notecards are the simple text documents that you can create and share in Second Life. They're great for storing information, such as instructions on how to use an object or for sharing a list of your favorite Second Life locations.

To make a new notecard, follow these steps:

1. Click the Inventory button at the bottom of the screen.

The Inventory screen appears.

2. From the Create menu, choose New Note.

A new notecard appears.

3. Enter a description and the text you want to save.

4. Click Keep.

5. To access the notecard again you just need to find it in your Inventory and double-click it.

Notecards can be very useful for storing images and lists of landmarks. For instance, you might have a notecard for the prettiest places in Second Life that could have pictures and landmarks built in.

To add landmarks or images to a notecard, follow these steps:

1. Click the Inventory button at the bottom of the page.

The Inventory screen appears.

2. Open the Notecards folder.

3. Double-click a notecard.

The notecard opens.

4. To add a landmark, open the Landmark folder in your inventory, select a landmark, and drag it onto the open notecard.

A link to the landmark appears.

5. To add an image, open the Textures folder in your inventory, select a texture, and drag it onto the open notecard.

You can have few types of pictures in SL. They can be textures or snapshots.

A link to the image appears. Clicking on the link will open the file.

6. Click Keep.

7. To access the card again, find it in your inventory and double-click it to display the contents.

If you want to create a series of notecards that are linked together like a hypertext book or help file, you can have notecards linked to each other.

To link two notecards, follow these steps:

1. Click the Inventory button at the bottom of the screen.

The Inventory screen appears.

2. Open the Notecards folder.

3. Double-click a notecard.

The notecard opens.

4. To add a link to another notecard, select another notecard and drag it onto the open notecard.

A link to the notecard appears.

5. Click Keep.

All notecards are named New Note in your inventory. To give a notecard a specific name, right-click the note in your inventory, choose Rename, and type in a new name. You're set.
